FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Renee Anderson Submitted: April 2005 ========================================================================= Arnold Phillip KRAMER (1882 - 1976) Abstract Sources: Memorial card for "Arnold Phillip Kramer," and "Kramer Kindred," compiled by Ruth Petracek, 1989; pp. 44, 49, 61, 68, 79-80, 128 (includes "Artist Arnold Kramer dies," undated clipping from the Minneapolis Tribune). ____________________ Arnold Kramer, known as "Minnesota's Grandpa Moses," passed away on July 3, 1976, at the Redwood Falls Hospital. A funeral mass was held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wabasso, Minnesota, on July 5, 1976 at 9 a.m., with Rev. Patrick Casey officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Seaforth, Minnesota. Stanley's Funeral Service from Wabasso handled the arrangements. Arnold was born on October 21, 1882, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the third son of Michael and Gertrude Kramer. The family moved to Minnesota and purchased land in Redwood County in 1891. Arnold grew up in the Seaforth area, was "raised to be a farmer" and played in the Kramer Brothers Band and the Kramer Orchestra. In 1914 Arnold married Rose Boushek at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaforth. Arnold and Rose settled near Seaforth and had five children. In addition to farming, Arnold gave violin and cornet lessons, was in a combo that played at dances, and directed bands from Seaforth, Vesta, Echo and Wabasso. In 1949, after more than 50 years of farming near Seaforth, Arnold retired and took up oil painting. A self-taught artist, he produced more than 400 paintings -- many portraying turn-of-the-century farm life on the southwest Minnesota prairie. Shows of his work traveled through the Upper Midwest, and permanent collections are on display at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and the County Center Museum in Wabasso. ____________________ Compiler's note: The memorial card lists Arnold's birthplace as Adams, Minnesota. According to family records, Arnold was born in Iowa. Compiled and abstracted by Renee Anderson, grandniece of Arnold Kramer. ========================================================================= Copyright.
