Kramer" and "Kramer Kindred," compiled by Ruth Petracek, 1989; pp. 85-86; 70, 128 (includes "Mr. Kramer's funeral held," undated clipping from unidentified newspaper). ____________________ Mathias (Math) Kramer, 88, passed away on December 27, 1976. A funeral mass was held at Church of the Holy Name in Vesta, Minnesota on December 30, 1976 at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Stan Grabowski officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Seaforth, Minnesota. Math was born at home on January 19, 1888, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the sixth child and fifth son of Michael and Gertrude Bernard Kramer. The family moved to Minnesota and purchased land in Redwood County in 1891. Math grew up in the Seaforth area, helped on the family farm and played in the Kramer Brothers Band, later known as the Kramer Orchestra. He married Dorothy (Ruth) Rohlik on June 28, 1922, and they lived on the Kramer homestead. Math and Ruth had seven children; including a son Paul who died in infancy. Math raised purebred Durocs and showed them at county fairs and the Minnesota State Fair. He also was an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Math and Ruth organized monthly dances that were held at Lisy's Hall in Seaforth. Ruth and a daughter, Lorraine, died in 1952. Math farmed until 1961, when he retired and moved to Vesta. After breaking his hip in 1971, he moved to the Wabasso Nursing Home. ____________________ Compiler's notes: (1) The memorial card and newspaper obituary list Math's birthplace as Adams, Minnesota. According to family records, Math was born in Iowa. (2) Durocs are "the red pig." (3) In 1991 more than 500 "Kramer Kindred" celebrated the 100th anniversary of Michael and Gertrude's family homestead as a "Century Farm," where a third generation and descendants now live.
