FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Gwenn M Solseth Submitted: October 2003 ========================================================================= Newspaper obituary, undated: Funeral Rites for Mrs. Solseth, At Milroy, Sunday Mrs. Martha Solseth, pioneer resident of Milroy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 11:30 p.m. at the hospital at Hendricks where she had been bedridden since April 15, 1942, following a stroke. Martha Olson Solseth was born April 5, 1857, at Vestre Gausdal, Gudbrandsalen Norway. She immigrated to America in 1881 and settled in Watonwan County, near Madelia and there was married to Christian Solseth. They came to Milroy in 1892 and settled on the farm north of town where she lived until 1918. She then moved to Milroy and lived here until 1939 when due to failing health she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Blake, at Hendricks. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran church from which she was buried Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. P.A. Strommen assisted by Rev. M.A. Erickson of Hendricks officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Ed Solseth, Arthur Solseth, Robert Solseth, Harold Solseth, Wilbert Blake and Lyle Gieser. Survivors are eight children, Albert of White Earth, N.D., Otto of Cando, N.D., Dena (Mrs. Ole Stenbak) of White Earth, N.D.; Mabel (Mrs. Blake) of Hendricks, who recently left with her son for Bremerton, Wash., John of Minneapolis; Carl of Portland, Oregon; Oluf of Lucan; Melvin of Milroy; also 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J.P. Johnson of Minneapolis. Her husband and one son preceded her in death. Four children, Carl, John, Oluf and Melvin were present at their mother's funeral. Other relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Reno Danielson and Peggy of Hendricks, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lunde and Richard Lunde of Lake Crystal, Marie Lunde of New Ulm, Oletta Lunde of Fergus Falls, Otto Selle of Lake Crystal, Arthur Solseth of Winona, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Francis, Mr. and Mrs. Ellstrom of Madelia, Mrs. Emil Moratzka and Carol Jean, Brewster, Minn., and J.P. Johnson of Minneapolis.
