ZITZMANN (1880 - 1944) Abstract Sources: "Joe F. Zitzmann Rites at Lucan Tuesday, Sept. 5," undated clipping from unidentified newspaper and "Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Centennial History, 1898 - 1998," Henle Printing Co., Marshall, Minnesota, pp. 224 - 225. ____________________ Joseph Zitzmann died on August 31, 1944, at his Lucan home on his 64th birthday. He had been ill with heart trouble for more than a year. Funeral services were at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. Rev. Fr. Charles Pfeiffer officiated and was assisted by Rev. Fr. Bertrand of Wanda. Interment was in the church cemetery. Joseph, a son of Joseph and Margaret Zitzmann, was born August 31, 1880, at West Newton in Nicollet County. He married Rose Ourada in New Ulm in 1902. In 1906 they moved to Lucan, where he worked for the railroad and the county, and in the pool hall and liquor store. Joseph and Rose had 12 children: Joseph (who died at age 7), Frank, Rose, George, John, Michael, Leonard, Magdalena (Mac), Philomena (Phyllis), Sylvester, Ann and Gilbert. The children were born in Lucan; were baptized, made First Communion and rang the bell at Our Lady of Victory Church; and attended first through eighth grades in Lucan, District 108. Mac graduated salutatorian from Milroy High School in 1933, Phyllis graduated valedictorian from Milroy High School in 1934, and Ann graduated salutatorian from Milroy High School in 1939. ____________________ Compiled and abstracted by Renee Anderson, granddaughter of Joseph F.
