E. Brent and T. Barnes. 1874 (April 7) - One of the first claims in the township by Charles Humbolt in Section 6 1876 (July 27) - A petition was presented to the board asking that the township be organized as Melville. 1876 (August 15) - The petition [re: 1876 July 27] was granted and election ordered to be held. 1876 (October 2) - A signed petition was presented to the board asking that townships 115-34 and 116-34 be constituted as Bird Island Township. 1876 (October 6) - One of the first claims in the township by Thomas W. Gage on Section 30. 1876 (October 21) - The petition [re: 1876 October 2] was granted and an election was ordered. 1876 (October 21) - At the home of Joseph Feeter, the first election was held. The officers elected were: Supervisors, Charles Humbolt (chairman) J. H. Feeter, and J. Balsey; Clerk, J. S. Bowler; Assessor, Benjamin Feeder; Treasurer, Nahum Tainter; Justices, Edward Bowler and R. G. Harter; Constables, George Miller and John Engstrom. 1876 - First real estate assessment was made. 1876 - First personal property assessment was made. 1878 (July 16) - First new graded road on record was plated by M. S. Spicer the surveyor after a petition. 1878 (September 3) - Township 116-34 was organized as Kingman Township leaving Bird Island with it's present boundaries. 1946-1947 - 4-H Club organized 1979 - Officers: Supervisors, Raymond Volz (Chairman), Milton J. Brandt, and Leo Kubesh; Clerk, Douglas J. Amberg; Treasurer, Greg Sanger.
