From 1875 to November, 1884. Crooks was attached to Emmet under the General Act of 1875. 1869 (June) - First permanent settler, William Powers. 1870 (February 20) - First child was born in the township. William Daly, the son of James and Eliza Daly. 1870 (September 7) - Township was organized. 1870 (September 21) - First township election was held with officers elected: Supervisors, Loren A. Brooks (chairman), John Warner and William Powers; clerk, Patrick Coulahan; treasurer, H. E. Wadsworth; justices, William Powers and L. A. Brooks; constables, C. Pickthorn and James Daly. 1870-1871 - Charles Peneman was the first schoolmaster. 1875 - The first school house was erected, District 37. 1875 (April 6) - Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized.
