It is located in Section 35. 1862 (August 18) - The Schwandt family were killed by the Indians. 1867 (April 2) - Township was organized. Officers elected: Chairman, Henry Dreyer; Supervisors, John Schafer and Henry Timms; Clerk and Justice of the Peace, Francis Shoemaker; and Constable, Louis Thiele. 1869 - Vicksburg post office was established and discontinued in 1905. 1871 - Vicksburg was first assessed and located in Section 19. It was one of the earliest villages in the township. 1872 - The German Lutheran Church was organized, located in Section 27. It is now known as St. Matthew Lutheran Church. 1872 - Hertzhorn post office was established. 1874 - The Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church was organized, Section 19. The church no longer exists. 1875 - The German Methodist Church was organized, Section 22. The church no longer exists. 1889 - Florita post office was established and closed in 1905. 1905 - The Vicksburg and Florita post offices were discontinued. 1910 (February) - The Union Home Mission Club was started. The purpose of the club was to give aid to less fortunate than themselves. 1915 (August 18) - The Schwandt Memorial was erected on section 33, in memory of the Schwandt family who were killed by the Indians August 18, 1862. 1935 - The Flora Shooting Stars 4-H Club was started.
