FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Barbara Pierce Submitted: June 1999 ========================================================================= 1859 (about) - A number of Frenchmen and French ½ breeds settled in the area. 1861 - Joseph Shafer stopped in Hawk Creek to select a piece of land and returned after the massacre. 1865 (about) - After the massacre, the French and French ½ breeds began to return to the county. 1867 (April 2) - Hawk Creek was organized. It included the townships of Sacred Heart, Ericson, Hawk Creek and Wang and land to the west not now in the county. Officers appointed: Supervisors, C. C. O'Brien, William T. Dugn, Thomas Olson, Assessor, Ole Enestvedt, town clerk, G. P. Greene. 1869 (about) - Hawk Creek Post Office was established, also called Jeanetville, Postmaster J. S. Earl. 1871 - Hawk Creek Lutheran Church congregation was formed. 1871 (October 7) - First meeting of the School District #41 Hawk Creek Township was held at the home of Haakon O. Agre. It is one of the oldest school districts in Renville County. 1872 (May 16) - School District #41 voted to have school three months. The following officers were elected: Director Ole Henderickson, Clerk Haakon O. Agre, Treasurer Ole O. Fugleskjal. 1873 - The Hawk Creek congregation of the Hawk Creek Lutheran Church "Eastern Part" was organized. 1879 - Christian Larson donated a tract of land for the Hawk Creek Lutheran Church. 1880 - Hawk Creek Insurance Company was started. 1881 - Hawk Creek Insurance Company became a company. 1887 (June) - The Hawk Creek Church was dedicated. 1889 - Ladies Aid was organized. 1892 (about) - Young People's Society was organized, later became the Lutheran League. 1942 (September 11) - A tornado swept through the Hawk Creek community. 1944/45 - School District #41 was closed and was consolidated with Sacred Heart. 1952 (late) - School District #21, Section 17, was closed and consolidated with Granite Falls School.
