FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Barbara Pierce Submitted: June 1999 ========================================================================= 1870 (about) - The first settlers came to Melville Township. 1878 (January 21) - The first town meeting was held at the home of Albert Brown. The township was organized with George Raitz, Fred Wolff and Norman Hickok as supervisors and Albert Brown as clerk. 1887-1967 - The Elim Moravian Church 1890 (about) - A poor farm was established with Mr. Easterday as manager. Some of the early settlers were Charles Kenning, Henry Mihm, Hirum Walker, Gens Nelson, Joseph Daily, Ferdinand Wolff, Fred Rueswig, and Philip Kirchner. 1940 (about) - The town hall was destroyed by arson fire. Prior to being a town hall, it was a co-operative creamery. It was built in Section 16. 1968 - Elim Moravian Church was discontinued. It was located in the center of the township. The cemetery is still in use.
