D. Childs and Charles Sherwood. Soon after, Michael Maloney, and Peter and Gust St. Dennis came to the township. 1869 - Services were held in private homes and also the schoolhouse by Rev. Nakum Tainter, a Methodist minister. 1869 (early) - James Brown, Patrick Williams and Dennis Gleason arrived. 1869 (March) - Theda Childs was the first birth in the township, daughter of S. D. Childs. She died the following September. 1869 (July) - D. W. Brown was the second birth in the township. 1869 (July 26) - The Township of Norfolk was organized as Houlton. Various changes took place both in name and territory after that. 1869 (summer and fall) - Others came to the township: John Stone, Charles Bowler, S. F. Warner, Timothy Kennedy, John Hogan, James Murphy and Thomas Brady. 1874 - The township name was changed to Norfolk Township. 1875 (March) - The first officers were elected: Silas Brooks, chairman; John Wadenspaner and Philip Ryan, supervisors; W. F. Bowler, clerk; Charles Ingram and John Regan, constables; Frank Adair, Ed Mahoney and Pat Williams, road overseers. 1876 (October 2) - Norfolk Township assumed its present boundaries.
