According to records, this was the first township to be surveyed and have claims filed in Renville County. 1864-1866 - After the Sioux uprising, the first permanent settlers came to the township. 1869 (September 7) - Preston Lake Township was organized and was named for its largest body of water. 1869 (September 28) - The first town meeting was held at the home of William Phare. The first supervisors elected: E. U. Russell, William Rosser, and Ira S. Sheppard; Hiram H. Davis, clerk; James A. Washburn, treasurer; G. A. Gifford and Allison Houck, justices; and Judson L. Mann and William Herring, constables. 1900 - The Preston Lake Town Hall was built and acquired by the township in 1901.
