Also, the first recorded township death was on the same date, Mrs. Margaret Murphy. 1872 (September 20) - Willis Countryman was the first settler, Section 32. Followed by Dennis Cready, Section 30, and Wm. Chalk, in 1873. 1873 (June 4) - Wellington Township was organized. The township was named after the Duke of Wellington, Hero of Waterloo. 1873 (June 17) - A township election was held at the home of Wm. Carson with Mr. Carson being elected Chairman and Henry Barton, clerk. 1879 (February 6) - The organization of a local congregation was discussed and decided on at the home of Edward Kiecker, Sr. It was given the name of Emanuel's Ev. Lutheran Congregation, Wellington Township. 1880 - A church-parsonage building (Emanuel Lutheran Church) was erected on the farm of Wm. Freyholtz. 1881 (July 15) - A cyclone hit the area killing a daughter of the Joh Faheys. 1883 (spring) - The Emanuel Lutheran Church was moved. It was decided to relocate the church because Mr. Freyholtz was unable to give the congregation a deed to the land; and since the church was located between several large sloughs, it was difficult to build and maintain good roads. 1889 - The present Emanuel Lutheran Church was built. 1889 - A Post Office was established on the Wm. Schoenfelder land with Mr. Schoenfelder as postmaster. It was discontinued in 1905. 1896 - Aug. Voeks helped organize the Fairfax Creamery Association. 1905 - The Post Office was discontinued.
