Cowell, 400 E. Sixth St., at noon Thursday, Nov. 29, Mr. Cowell had been ill with inflammation of the veins the past month, receiving care at both Northfield Hospital and his home. He seemed to be recovering very satisfactorily and hoped to go out of doors for a bit the day he died. The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Bierman's funeral home. Dr. Max Volkmann, minister of the Congregational-Baptist church, officiated. Mrs. R. D. Harmer, sister-in-law of the deceased, sang "In the Garden," accompanied on the organ by Miss Isabel Howland. Interment was in the Castle Rock cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hill, Sr., P. C. Records, J. C. Carlson, LaVerne Kleeberger, H. D. Grant, and Fred Wolf. Attending the funeral from a distance were Keath Cowell, son of the deceased, and his family from Lawrence, Kansas. While Mr. Cowell left Sunday to resume his work at Lawrence, Mrs. Cowell and children plan to visit here several weeks. Charles L. Cowell was born Feb. 1, 1886, at Castle Rock, the son of Thomas W. and Sarah Roach Cowell. He was married Oct. 11, 1913 to Pearl E. Harmer. Mr. Cowell farmed near Farmington until 1921 when he and his family moved to Northfield. For a short time he was employed in the Rahmann Meat Market, but for many years he bought and trucked cattle to market. During World War II, he employed for a time at the Gopher Ordnance Plant at Rosemount; later at the atomic energy plant at Richfield, Wash. The past few years, he has been employed part time at the Quality grocery in Northfield. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Mrs. Warren Closson (Beth) of Northfield; twin children, Mrs. Charles Borchert (Ardath) of White Bear and Keath of Lawrence, Kans.; five grandchildren, Ranah Closson, Keath and Candance Borchert, John and Rebecca Cowell. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Batson of Farmington and Mrs. Doris Kimber of Northfield; three brothers, Arthur and John of Northfield, Robert of Mt. Vernon, Wash. A sister, Mrs. Lulu Frame who lived in Northfield, and a brother Frank who lived in Crookston, preceded him in death."
