HERBERT HARMER "Herbert Harmer for many years a resident of the Waterford community and well known here, died at the Mineral Springs Sanitarium on Wednesday, Nov. 10, following a lingering illness. Mr. Harmer has been in ill health for nearly ten years, but was taken to the sanitarium about six weeks ago for treatment. The funeral was held at the home of his son, Clifford Harmer, in Waterford on Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Samuel Johnson pastor of the Congregational Church officiated. During the service, Mrs. L.D. Harmer sang "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages." The remains were taken to Dodge Center where burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Mr. Thompson, pastor of the Congregational Church at Dodge Center officiated at the grave. Herbert Harmer, who was the twelfth child of a family of seventeen children, was born in Green Lake County, Wis., on March 4, 1852. When a young boy he came with his parents to Minnesota and for a time they made their home near New Ulm. Because of the warlike Indians there at that time they moved to Dodge County where Mr. Harmer made his home until 1905. Then he moved to this community making his home on a farm near Waterford now operated by his son, Clifford. On February 4, 1874, Mr. Harmer was married to Miss Elizabeth Swan (ERROR - this should have been Swam) at Kasson, who with their seven children survive. There are five sons, Herbert and Earl of St. Paul, R.D. of Leader, Paul of Lansing Mich., and Clifford on the home place: and two daughters, Mrs. John Noreen and Mrs. Charles Cowell of this city. Besides his immediate family Mr. Harmer is survived by five brothers, William and Richard of Santa Ana, Calif., Albert of Claremont, Thomas of Hilltop, Colo., and Jesse of this city; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Crown of Cumberland, Wis., and Mrs. Glennys Lynch of Dodge Center." (ERROR: The last sister mentioned should be Jane/Jennie Lynch and not Mrs. Glennys Lynch.) HERBERT HARMER, SR., IS DEAD "Earl and Herbert Harmer of St. Paul, are in town this afternoon making arrangements for the burial of their father, Herbert Harmer Sr., who died at the sanitarium in Cannon Falls last night following a long illness. The remains will be brought to Dodge Center Saturday and burial services held in Riverside Cemetery at 2:00 o'clock. Mr. Harmer's home is at Waterford, near Northfield."
