JESSE HARMER "Nearly 94 years old, Jesse Harmer died in Minneapolis Wednesday, Feb. 14, after an illness of only one month. He was for many years a resident of Northfield. The Rev. Thorlief Harberg, pastor of the Moravian church, conducted the funeral service in Bierman's funeral chapel, Friday, Feb. 16. Robert Henry sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Mrs. R. H. Sampson at the organ. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery with six nephews as pallbearers. They were Clifford and Roy Harmer of Farmington, Art Bruce, George LaPointe, Charles Cowell and John Noreen, all of Northfield. Attending from away were Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Harmer of LeCenter; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ellingboe of St. Paul; Mrs. Essa Eide and Donna Eide, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Krandy, Earl Harmer, all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Harmer, Edwin and Meade Harmer, Roy Harmer, all of Farmington; Mr. and Mrs. George Cram of Waterville. Jesse Harmer was born Feb. 18, 1857 at Staughton, Wis., the son of Matthew and Mary Harmer. When he was ten years old he moved to Claremont, Minn., and lived there until six years after his marriage. On March 27, 1878 at Ottawa he was married to Miss Ida Todd. After farming near Claremont the couple moved to LeSueur county for three years, to Waterville for seven years and to Greenvale township, near Northfield, in 1903. During his younger life he built and owned several homes and places of business. He and his wife moved to the city of Northfield in 1913, living on West Ninth St. Since her death in 1943 he has lived in Minneapolis. He was the last survivor of a family of 11 brothers and 6 sisters. He is survived by four children, Otto R. Harmer of Northfield, Mrs. Martin Ellingboe (Lillian) of St. Paul, Rollo J. Harmer of LeCenter, Mrs. Essa Eide of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Mrs. O. F. Krandy (Lillian Harmer), Miss Donna Eide and Glen Harmer, all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Ben Hansen (Rosalyn Harmer) of Northfield. Besides his wife he is preceded in death by one son, Milo Harmer, who died at LeCenter at the age of 28. Mr. Harmer took a very active part in many public activities in Northfield. He is especially remembered for entertaining with the violin."
