At an early age she became a member of the Episcopal church. Mrs. Harmer survived her husband's death by nine years. She was the mother of seventeen children, of which there were six daughters and eleven sons, fourteen of whom live to mourn her loss, Mrs. Harriet Smith, of Texas; Mrs. Mary Crown of Markesan, Wis.; Mrs. Jennie Lynch, of this place; Matthew, of Edgerton, Mo.; Henry, of Randolph, Wis.; Thomas, of Downs, Kansas; James, of North Yakima, Wash.; William, of Minneapolis; Herbert, Jesse, and Richard, of Northfield, John and Albert, of Claremont, and George of this place. Mrs. Harmer accompanied by her husband and 10 children, sailed from London, England, in 1849 to America on the sailboat Victoria, being 45 days on the water, and settled in Wisconsin where they lived until the spring of 1862 when they moved to this state. In the spring of 1865 they moved onto a farm near Claremont, Minn., and have made it their home in this country since that time. Mrs. Harmer was a lover of her home and ever faithful to its duties as long as health and strength permitted. The funeral services were held this afternoon in the M. E. church, Rev. John Ferry, of Claremont, officiating, and the remains laid at rest in Riverside cemetery." Dodge County Star: February 1906.
