FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2006 ========================================================================= Donald D Vrtacnik, 73, of Luverne, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hosptial, Sioux Falls, SD. Born Dec. 6, 1932, in Virginia, he was the son of Joseph and Helia Hill Vrtacnik. He married Nyra Adams Aug. 19, 1953. He married Sandra Pool Wynia May 21, 1983. He grew up and attended school in Virginia, graduated from Virginia High School and enrolled in a tool and die program at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years on the U.S.S. Wasp. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he entered the MN State Patrol Academy and was then employed in the Deer River area. In 1963, he and his family moved to Luverne. In 1988, he officially retired from the state patrol, then enjoyed his retirement working at Connell Car Care for a time. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Luverne, and formerly a member of the United Methodist Church, Luverne. He was a member of the MN State Patrol Troopers Association, the VFW of Luverne and the Luverne Country Club. He served for a period of time as the manager of the Luverne Municipal Airport, holding his private, commercial and instrument rating. Surviving are his wife; six children, James (Sharlene) Vrtacnik, Good Thunder; Robert Vrtacnik, Phoenix, AZ; Donald Vrtacnik, Phoenix; Michael Vrtacnik, LeMars, IA; Missy (Evan) Verbrugge, Luverne; and Heather Poe, Luverne; a brother, Ralph (Evelyn) Vrtacnik, Seattle, WA; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartquist Funeral Home, Engebretson Chapel, Luverne. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Luverne, with the Rev.
