FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2006 ========================================================================= John Vander Ziel, 91, of Hills, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Orange City, IA he was the son of Burgert and Berdena Pleiter Vander Ziel. He married Gertrude Brouwer Feb . 22, 1940. She preceded him in death. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He farmed with his father, drove truck and operated a feed grinder. After marriage, the couple made their home in Ireton, IA until moving to California, where he opened a Venetian blind company. Three years later, they moved to Sheldon, IA and opened a Venetian blind factory. In 1948, they moved to Holland, where they farmed for the next 30 years. He served as an elder for many years and as a school board member of the Holland Christian School. In 1978, they moved to Hills, where he was a member of the Hills United Reformed Church. Surviving are three daughters, Beverly (John) Den Besten, Hills; Shirley (Leon) Mulder, Doon, IA; and Elaine (Ken) Vanden Berg, Hills; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Roste Funeral Home, Hills. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hills United Reformed Church, Hills, with the Rev. Doug Barnes officiating.
