Waukon, Iowa REPUBLICAN-STANDARD newspaper
     Funeral services were held in Sherburn, MN for 85 year old Matt J.
Schroedel of Sherburn. He died November 8, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center in
Estherville. The Rev. Virgil Anderson conducted the 11 a.m. services held
Saturday, November 11 at Kramer Family Funeral Chapel in Sherburn. Burial was in
the Sherburn City Cemetery.
     Mathiaus James Schroedel was born January 10, 1904 to Mathiaus and Margaret
(Hipsch) Schroedel at the "Kid Farm" in Elm Creek Township, Martin County, MN
and attended school in Elm Creek Township. He was employed as a trucker and was
in partnership with Walter Hanson trucking company in Sherburn. On June 30, 1934
he married Velma Mowery in Sherburn. He continued his trucking business and
worked for Kark Appetizer Feeds in Sherburn for 25 years. He had been
semi-invalid for seven years due to French Polio and had been a resident of the
Good Samaritan Center since June 23. He was a member of St.John's Lutheran
Church in Sherburn for 55 years.
     Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Judy Sinn of Jackson, a son Gerald
Schroedel of Waukon, Iowa, two granddaughters, and a sister, Emma Riedel of
Sherburn.
     He was preceded in death by an infant son, Matt Jr., two brothers and four
sisters. Casket bearers were Harold Anderson, Armand Cook, Willard Peters, Bruce
Schwager, Brian Mowery, and Charles Montgomery.
