He was one of the pioneer settlers of the section and was held in high esteem by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. The entire community condoles with the children in their bereavement. The deceased was stricken with paralysis, at the home of his son Fred, about two weeks ago, and although all that medical skill and kind care could accomplish was done for him, it did not avail, he gradually grew weaker and finally the spark of life was extinguished at ten o'clock Monday night, March 23. Esdras Beliveau was born in St. Grigoire, Canada, January 23, 1825, and came to this place in 1851, when it was a wilderness, taking a claim and making the necessary improvements. Six years afterwards he went to Bay de Feve, Canada, where he was united in Marriage to Emelia Jutros and they returned to Henderson and lived happily together until February 21, last, when death called her away. The departure of his beloved wife was a hard shock to him and he was taken down with paralysis. The children were summoned last week and the following responded, viz.: Mrs. L. A. Glatigny, of Sleepy Eye; Miss Mary Beliveau, Mrs. Alfred Courteau, Mrs. Frank Boudoin, of Minneapolis, and U. J. Beliveau, of Davenport, Iowa. Owing to sickness, the remaining two daughters, Mrs. Beaudreau and Mrs. Boudin, and Ulysses, who is in the Philippines, were unable to be present. The funeral was held yesterday, Rev. Jansen conducting the services at the Catholic church, and the remains were interred in the cemetery of that parish. (Note by Phil Schiller: the surnames of the married daughters may be misspelled. Such is the case for my great-grandmother, Louisa (Mrs. Frank Beaudreau) in the original article [Bowdrow].)
