FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Phil and Karen Schiller Submitted: Feb 2003 ========================================================================= From the Sibley County Independent of this date: February 27, 1903 Passed Away Death has claimed another old settler of this township, Mrs. Esdras Beliveau, who passed away at her home on the 21st inst. Her sudden demise was a severe shock to the relatives and friends. Although unwell for some time past, the end came unexpectedly. A few days previous to her death she became seriously ill with a complication of ailments and gradually grew weaker. All that medical aid and kind care could accomplish was resorted to but of no avail, and on Saturday, at 2:30 o'clock p.m. she succumbed to the inevitable. The deceased was a kind and loving wife and mother and was highly respected by all who knew her. Emilia Beliveau, nee Jutros, was born at Bay de Feve, Canada, January 6, 1839, and was married at the age of eighteen to Esdras Beliveau. They came to Henderson when the city was in its infancy and settled in what was known as Frenchtown, living there for eleven years, after which they removed to the present homestead, near this city, where she lived until death called her away from relatives and friends. The deceased was among the earliest settlers in this township, and was among those who were forced to flee to Belle Plaine for safety during the Indian outbreak in 1862. Though her trials and troubles have been many, she has borne them throughout with good cheer, and always endeavored to make her surroundings and those of her many friends pleasant. She was the mother of a large family of children, twelve in all, none of whom are living, namely: Miss Mary Beliveau, Mrs. Frank Boudin and Mrs. Alfred Corteau, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Andrew Glatigny, of Sleepy Eye; Mrs. David Boudin, of West Superior; Mrs. Fred Beaudreau, of DeGraff, Minn., Ulrick Beliveau, of Davenport, Ia.; Ulysses E. Beliveau, of P.I. and Fred Beliveau who resides on the old homestead. They were all present at the funeral except Ulysses. The funeral was held from the Catholic church Tuesday forenoon, Rev. Jansen conducting the services, and the remains interred in the cemetery of that parish. The entire community joins the Independent in extending sympathy to the bereaved husband and children. (Note by Phil Schiller: the surnames of the married daughters may be misspelled. Such is the case for my great-grandmother, Louisa (Mrs. Frank Beaudreau) in the original article [Bowdrow].)
