Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Dwight Grabitske --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arlington Enterprise Thursday 18 September 1913 DEATHS John Andrew Beseke John Andrew Beseke, one of the early settlers of this part of the county, passed away at the home of his son, August, with whom he had been living, Saturday, Sept. 13th, of dropsy, aged 72 years, 3 months and 10 days. Deceased was born in the Province of Saxony, Germany, March 3, 1841, where he spent his childhood and attended school until 17 years of age. In 1857 he immigrated to this country with his parents and settled in Dubuque, Iowa, afterwards moving to Arlington, Minn., where he has ever since made his home. He was a member of the M. E. church of Arlington, having joined when Rev. Riechter was pastor. Mr. Beseke was a veteran of the Civil War, having served as a private in Co. H., Second Regiment, from June 4, 1864, until mustered out at the close of the war, July 11, 1865. In 1870 he was married to Miss Luhring, who died April 6, 1891. Two sons were born of this union, August and Benona, who survive him. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the M. E. church and the interment was in the public cemetery east of town, Rev. Brinkmann officiating. The pall bearers were Wm. Young, Sr., Fred Sander, Martin Bandelin, Nick Bovey, August Wentzlaff and Fred Kistner.
