Met with a Runaway Accident and Died from his Injuries. Thursday evening of last week Pat Bray of Henderson met with an accident that culminated in his death Tuesday morning. It seems that he was about to mount or dismount a sulky in his yard, when his foot slipped and went into the wheel, the horse becoming unruly at the same time proceeded to run away and dragged the unfortunate man for some distance. After being carried to the house and medical aid summoned it was found that his shoulder and two ribs were fractured and it was feared he sustained other internal injuries. An experienced surgeon was sent for to St. Paul and everything possible done to save his life, but it proved of no avail, and he breathed his last early Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held this (Thursday) forenoon at ten o’clock. Deceased was born in Ireland in 1830 and was therefore 63 years of age. In 1847 he immigrated to this country and settled in New York state. Some years after he moved to this state and settled in Faxon, this county, where he engaged in farming for a number of years. When the war broke out he went to Montana and tried his hand at mining, but this evidently did not suit his taste and in 1867 he returned to Henderson, where he resided ever since. In 1869 he received the office of sheriff of this county which he held for seventeen years successively until he resigned in 1886. In 1890 he was the Democratic candidate for senator against T. Streissguth, the present incumbent. He leaves a wife and five grown up children. One son, John P., was state auditor of North Dakota, while the other, N. C., is deputy auditor of this county. Mr. Bray was well known thoughout the state and his genial nature won him many friends, who are pained to learn of his sudden and untimely departure. We join the community in extending sympathies to the bereaved relatives and friends.
