Louis Gierke, a well known and influential resident of Kelso township, passed peacefully into his final rest at his home Saturday evening about seven o’clock, aged 68 years, 11 months and 10 days. He had been ill for some time with cancer of the stomach, and although everything that loving hands and skill could do for him, it was of no avail. He bore his burden with true Christian fortitude which is so beautiful to behold. Deceased was born in Germany, Jan. 6, 1843, and came to this country when a young man. He was married Dec. 26, 1871, to Augusta Gronmeyer, who survives him. The union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters, but one of the sons died in infancy. The surviving children are Fred Gierke, Mrs. Wm. Buck and Miss Amelia, all residing in this county. The funeral was held yesterday noon and interment was in Buesing cemetery. Services were held at the house and the New Rome church by Rev. Eyrich and were attended by a large concourse of neighbors and friends. Louis Gierke was truely one of God’s noblemen, and his loss will be keenly felt, not only by the members of his family, but by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was one of the strongest pillars in the New Rome church and did much to maintain it. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
