Hamilton of New Auburn Answers Final Summons On Saturday evening, May 11th, occurred the death of W. R. Hamilton, one of New Auburn’s prominent and highly respected pioneer residents. The funeral was held from the family residence Monday at 2 o’clock, the Rev. M. Harry officiating. “Lead Kindly Light” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” were sung by a quartette, friends of the deceased. Wm. Robert Hamilton was born in Dexter, Maine, April , 1829. He was married in 1854 to Eunice J. Brookings, from which union were born four children. In 1865 he moved with his family to Minnesota, where he located in Hennipen county. Here his wife died and in 1868 he married Sussie G. Woodard and to them were born six children. He is survived by his widow, his oldest son William of Hartford, N.Dak., Edward of Osakis, Minn.; Mrs. P. Sundberg of Minneapolis; Mrs. Norman Staley of Bear Creek, Montana; Mrs. T. D. Sullivan of Columbia Falls, Montana, and also five grandchildren. Mr. Hamilton was on the pioneer residents of Sibley County, having settled on the banks of Titloe Lake, where the Village of Gaylord now stands. In 1882 he moved on a farm south of New Auburn where he lived until 1905 when he moved into the village where he has lived ever since. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Sarah Hamilton, Mrs. Louis Fuller and Mr. Chesley Hamiltion of Minneapolis; Mrs. D.W. Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Sundberg, Mrs. Huelskamp, Arthur Palmer and Will Palmer of Winthrop; Mrs. Aug. Krueger and Mrs. F. Nutter of Stewert; Robert Hamilton, Miss Marie Harris and Dwight Harris of Gaylord; A.C. Buck, John Hauer and F.T. Schlegel of Arlington.
