Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Dwight Grabitske ========================================================================= Arlington Enterprise Thursday 12 February 1920 Miss Rena Harris Called to Rest From the Gaylord Hub: County Superintendent of Schools, Miss Rena Harris, has gone to her last rest. Her death came as extemely sad news to her many friends at this village and county. Miss Harris had suffered with anemia for more than a year, but of late was reported to be getting along better than for some time. About two weeks ago she began to fail in health and her demise was very rapid, passing peacefully to her last sleep at five o’clock Wednesday morning, Feb. 4th. Rena Harris was a lady who was beloved by all who knew her, always cheerful and gentile, and her memory will be cherished by many young pupils, under her instruction during the many years she was connected with school work in this county. She was born on the old farm home adjoining this village, Oct. 18, 1876, attended the local school and later took up rural school work, teaching for seven years in the several districts in this county and thirteen years in the local high school, before being elected to the office of county superintendent of schools, Nov. 5th, 1918. The deceased is survived by two sisters, Miss Maria of this place, and Mrs. Andrew Shafer of Wray, Colorado; four brothers, Fred and Dwight of this place, George of Brule, Wis.; and Erwin of Portland, Oregon; the young adopted daughter, Miss Mae Harris, Robert Hamilton and H. Rawlings of Minneapolis, who made their home with the Harris sisters in years gone by. The Misses Harris disposed of their farm property several years ago and built a fine home in the Park addition, which planned to occupy together. Fate has been most unkind and the taking away of Miss Rena, in the best years of her life, is a hard blow, especially to her bereaved sister. The many friends of the deceased will join us in expression of profound sympathy to the bereaved family in thsir loss of a kind and loving sister. The funeral will be held from the home at eleven o’clock tomorrow (Saturday) forenoon, Rev. Knotts of Fairmont conducting the last rites and the remains will be taken to New Auburn, where services will be held and interment made in the family lot at the cemetery at that place.
