JOHN HAUCK died at his home in Live Oak, Cal., last Thursday night after a lingering illness. He was a victim of paralysis. He was for five years presiding elder for this district and was a regular visitor to New Ulm. He was compelled to abandon his labors several years ago because of a stroke of paralysis. He moved to California in the hope that the climate would benefit his health. On December 6 he suffered another stroke and passed away last Thursday night. Rev. Hauck came to America from Germany during the Civil War. He immediately enlisted in the Sixth Massachusetts and served his adopted country with a marked degree of loyalty. At the end of his enlistment Rev. Hauck resumed his labors in the church. He was a tireless worker, a conscientious Christian gentleman whose influence for the best there is in life, is still felt in many communities. Rev. Hauck is survived by a widow and eight sons, Herbert, who is connected with the First National Bank of Mankato; John, Washington, D.C.; Edward, Suter, Cal.; Charles, Ernst and Arthur, Live Oak; George, Marysville, Cal.; Ben, who is on the battleship, Minnesota. Rev. Hauck was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. - Brown County Journal Rev. Hauck was well known here, having had charge of the M. E. church for five years some fifteen years ago. His many Arlington friends regret to hear of his death, as he was a good pastor and all who knew him loved him for the many noble qualities he possessed. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
