He was ailing for some time, but his death was very sudden and unexpected as he was up and around until the day of his death, which was caused by cancer of the rectum and all medical aid was of no avail. While he has gone from the scenes, the conflicts, the sorrows and pleasures of life, he will still live in the hearts of those who knew him best, as he was well known in public, being a director in the Kelso Farmer’s Mutual Fire Insurance, Co. for about fifteen years. Mr. Joel was born on March 16, 1848 in Schwartzburg Sondershausen in the Province of Theering, Germany. He emigrated from Germany in the year 1867 and was married 4 years later to Wilhelmine Kroll. They settled in Henderson and from there they moved to Green Isle township where he lived ever since. Eleven children blessed their union, of which two daughters preceded him to the grave some years ago. He leaves to mourn his demise, a grief stricken widow, six daughters, three sons, fifteen grand children, an aged sister and brother in Germany, and a host of relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Arlington cemetery Sunday afternoon by Rev. Carl Reuter, and the many friends of the deceased paid their respects to the departed. May his soul rest in peace. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CARD OF THANKS We desire to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and burial of our beloved husband and father.
