Many here were from neighboring towns to bid a last farewell to their departed comrade. The funeral services took place at the house at 12:30 p.m., Rev. Rabe of the M. E. church performing the services. After this the Herman Sons took charge of the ceremonies, forming in a procession to the cemetery where they formed a circle around the grave and paid their last respects to the one whom death had called to rest. Rev. Rabe conducted the ritual services at the grave after which the Herman Sons marched to Fraternity Hall where they held services, presided over by R. L. Henschelt of St. Paul, state chaplain of the O.D.H.S. The decease was born at Burgberg, Baden, Germany, May 5, 1840, and died at his home here of asthma on Tuesday, Dec. 20th, he being therefore 64 years, 7 months and 22 days old at the time of his death. In 1869 he was married to Miss Mary Born Joos and the marriage was blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. Four of these died in their childhood, Mrs. A. C. Spannaus being the only daughter living. They came to America in 1880 and settled in Minneapolis, remaining there for three years, when they came to this village and made their home here. Three years ago his wife died. He had been afflicted with asthma for a long time but the serious attack, which hastened his demise, came about two weeks before his death. He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, two brothers, a sister and a large circle of friends, who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
