Mr. Nagel, who has always enjoyed good health, was taken sick March 13th with an abcess [sic.] in his left ear which worked toward the brain and caused blood poison. Doctors were at once called, but pronounced the case a serious one. They did all in their power, but in vain, and with the best of care of his loved ones nothing could be done to save his life. After but a short period of severe pains he peacefully passed away at 3 o’clock P.M. March 14, and his soul took its flight to the Lord in whom he believed. He was born Jan. 23rd, 1875, in the township of Arlington, and was therefore 37 years, 1 month and 20 days old at the time of his death. He was a son of Philip Nagel and Fredericke Nagel, and the youngest member of their family of 11 children. He was married on Nov. 15, 1900, to Bertha Soeffker, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Soeffker, Sr. Their union was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter, the little daughter being not quite five weeks old at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his early departure, his beloved wife and children, his aged and good mother, three brothers - Charley, Martin and William, and a great number of near relatives. The deceased was laid to rest on March 18th in the Lutheran cemetery in Arlington township. Rev. M. Abraham officiated. The funeral was on of the largest every [sic.] held in this community. It was followed by 127 teams. Words cannot express the grief into which this family and their relatives has so suddenly come and the sympathy of the community goes out to them in their affliction. Mr. Nagel was a true Christian, a kind and loving father, husband and brother, and an exemplary citizen. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends and neighbors for their assistance and sympathy during our recent bereavement, and also for the many beautiful floral offerings, and especially to the choir for their services.
