Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Dwight Grabitske --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arlington Enterprise Thursday 21 April 1904 DEATH OF JOHN NIEMAN Occurred at his home here Saturday. He was one of the old pioneers. He had been blind for 8 years. On Saturday, April 16 at 4:15 p.m. occurred the death of another of our pioneer settlers, John Niemann, age 81 years, 11 months and 8 days. The immediate cause of his death was jaundice and other complications which together with old age made death inevitable. He had been blind f for almost 8 years past. The deceased was born in Grochow Mecklenberg, Germany, May 8, 1822 and came to America in 1848. In 1855 he settled down on a homestead in Scott Co. where he was united in marriage in 1859 to Wilhelmine Lupke, who passed away about four months ago. He had been spending the last several years of his life at this place with his son Fred and daughter Louise. He leaves to mourn him one son and five daughters, those besides Louise are Mrs. Herman Tesch of Blakely; Mrs. Gustav Ziegenhagen of Lexington; Mrs. Fred Steinberg of Henderson; and Mrs. F. W. Witte of this place. The funeral was held Tuesday from the house at 1:30 o’clock p.m. The body was laid to rest in the German Lutheran cemetery, Rev. Heidmann performing the services. We extend sympathy to the bereaved relations.
