Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Dwight Grabitske Arlington Enterprise Thursday 31 January 1907 PASS TO THAT GREAT BEYOND It again becomes our sad duty to announce the departure of one of Sibley county’s early pioneers. Mrs. A. S. G. Obernolte of this village was called to the other side of the Jordan where sorrow and hardships she will no more endure. She died at the home of her son-in-law, L. F. Breitkreutz, on Wednesday of last week at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. She had been ailing for some time but nothing serious developed until a few days before her death. The immediate cause of her death resulted from old age. Medical aid and the kindest of treatment proved of no avail and she gradually grew worse until the black angel came and took her by the hand and led her to the great beyond where sorrow will be turned into joy. Mrs. A. S. G. Obernolte was born in Lippe Detmold, Germany, in the year 1826 and was therefore 81 years old. She came to this country in 1857 settling in Cook county, Ill. In the same year she was married to A. S. G. Obernolte, where their union was blessed with three children, namely, Augusta, Henry, and Amelia. In the spring of 1862 they removed to Minnesota, settling in Kelso township, Sibley county, where three more children were born, namely, Frederick, August and Hermine. Henry, the oldest son, and Hermine, who is Mrs. R. J. Young, are residents of the state of Idaho, and Frederick lives in Los Molinos, California. The other children are residents of Sibley county; Augusta is now Mrs. L. F. Breitkreutz of this village and Emilia is now Mrs. F. T. Schlegel, whose husband is postmaster of this village; and Aug., the youngest son, is County Treasurer, residing in Henderson. The remains were kept from Wednesday until Monday, but the two sons Frederick and Henry were unable to come in time to be present at the funeral, but Mrs. R. J. Young came in time to see her mother’s remains interred. She leaves to mourn her demise a husband, three sons and three daughters. The Obernolte family is a remarkable one, this being the first death in the family during 50 years. The funeral was held from the home of L. F. Breitkreutz, and the remains were interred in the East Arlington cemetery, Rev. G. A. Rabe presiding at the last sad rites. The relatives and friends are joined by the community in their sad bereavement. May she rest in peace. [Ed. Note: When her grandson, Warren Stanley Obernolte died in April 1907, she was identified: Mrs. Sophie Obernolte.] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
