The old settlers of Sibley county are slowly but surely passing away. As the leaves drop from the trees in Autumn - one by one - so our pioneers depart from this life to that Bourne, from whence no traveler ever returns. John Henry Roehler died at his home in Arlington township Thursday, Jan. 11, after an illness of three months, the last month of which he was confined to his bed, having reached the ripe age of 70 years and 27 days. Mr. Roehler was born in Ort Bruch, Germany, Dec. 14, 1823. In 1845 he came to America and settled in Arlington Heights, Ill., where he lved until 1856, when he came to Minnesota and settled in Arlington township, this county, where he has resided ever since. He was married 48 years ago in Illinois to Mary Nolte, with whom he had eight children. His wife and five children survive him. The latter are all grown up and married and their names are as follows: Louis and Paul Roehler, Mrs. Wm. Duehlmeier, Mrs. Wm. Barge and Mrs. Henry Soeffker. Deceased was in good circumstances and was well known throughout the county. He was one of the first supervisors of Arlington township and was a prominent man and was a leader in his time. The funeral was held Monday at 11 o’clock and was largely attended. Rev. Jank of the German Lutheran church officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of the township.
