SLOUGH Last Tuesday morning this community was greatly shocked to hear of the death of Thomas W. Slough, Sr., one of the oldest settlers in this part of the state. For the past twenty-four years Mr. Slough has resided with his brother, William, living about one and a half miles west of town, and was well and favorably known to all the old residents. Mr. Slough was up and around in apparent usual health until the time of his death. A short before he expired he called upon his brother who was in an ajoining room to com to his assistance, when he was laid upon a lounge and expired in a very few minutes. The sudden death of the deceased is supposed to have been caused by heart failure. Medical aid was summoned, but arrived after he had breathed his last. Thomas Slough, was born in Leighton Buzzord, Bedfordshire, Eng., seventy years ago the 17th of last September. When young, he was engaged as engineer upon the London and N. W. R. Ry., in England, his brother William acting as fireman for him. He afterwards spent two years in Russia at the same employment during the Crimean war. He came to America in 1856, located near the place where he died.
