He came to this country when a young man and established a home in Sibley county in the year of 1872. As a pioneer he experienced the many hardships and trials of the early settlers and his industry and integrity enabled him to accumulate a comfortable fortune in later years. He was married twice, four children surviving the death of his first wife, viz: Mrs. Louis Schmoll and David Tetzlaff of Gaylord; Mr. Henry Tetzloff and Mrs. J. McDonald of Hopkins, Minn. His second marriage to Miss Bertah Groetsch took place about 32 years ago. This union was blessed with five children, all of whom, together with the widow survive their father. They are as follows: Mrs. F. J. McAndrew, Fred Jr., George, Irene and Milton, all of St. Paul. Mr. Tetzlaff suffered a severe attack of stomach trouble about a year ago and submitted to an operation which was apparently successful. Last December he decided to make a trip to California to improve his health. After spending a month with relatives at New Orleans he departed for California but was very ill be the time he arrived at Fresno where he expired. The remains were brought to St. Paul where the funeral was held on February 17th. During his residence here of more than forty years he bought and sold real estate and the farms he owned in this vicinity at various times numbered several score. His honesty and fair dealing in all his transactions made him popular and highly respected by a host of friends who were deeply grieved by his demise.
