He was a kind husband and father and. Was held in high esteem by all who knew him. All that kind attention and medical aid could accomplish was done for him but of no avail, he gradually became weaker and finally succumbed to the inevitable. During his long illness his wife was constantly at his bedside, day and night, and by her tender care and ever watchfulness much of his suffering was alleviated, and the end came peacefully. * Frederick Wegge was born near Brommberg, Province Posen, Germany in September 25, 1830, and was therefore 78 years, 9 months and 26 days old at the time of his death. He came to this country in the fifties, settling in Henderson. In 1862 he enlisted in the army, serving in Company H., Seventh Regiment, during the war, and received an honorable discharge August 16, 1865. He returned to Henderson soon after his discharge and took a homestead in this township. May 3, 1867, he married, Mary Wigand, and four children blessed their union, two of whom are living, namely, Mrs. Conrad Katzenmeyer, of Henderson township, and Mrs. Robert Geib of this city. He is also survived by a brother, Michael Wegge, of this city, and eighteen grandchildren. The deceased removed to this city from his farm about nineteen years ago. The funeral was held from St. Paul's Evangelical church on Friday, and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. G. A. Eyrich, assisted by the choir. The pallbearers consisted of old soldiers, namely, Theo. Hedrich, G. Stubbe, G. Foltz, J. Geib, G. Ethie, and E. Schuetz. The remains were interred in Brown's cemetery. The bereaved widow and children have the sympathy of, their many friends. Old Settler Dead Fred Wegge, one of the early settlers of this section, died at his home in this city Wednesday afternoon, July 21,at half past one o'clock, after a long, illness from dropsy. Although critically ill at times, his demise came unexpectedly, and is a hard blow to his wife and other relatives. The funeral will be held this (Friday) afternoon from St. Paul's Evangelical Church. Particulars next week.
