Wigand Passed Away On Sunday This week -we are called upon to announce the demise of another one of our respected citizens Earnest L. Wigand, who was cut down in the best years of his life passing away on Sunday March 28, 1920, at about half past one o'clock P. m. after a lingering illness, from tubercular trouble and other complications. All that kind care, coupled with medical skill, could accomplish was resort to but of no avail; he grew steadily weaker and finally succumbed to the inevitable. He made a brave fight against the dread disease for more than four years, and at times appeared to be improving only to grow weaker afterwards. About four years ago he was forced to resign his position as rural mail carrier, and afterwards was prevailed upon to try the M. W. A Camp in Colorado, where he remained for some month. After he returned home he appeared to be holding his own but eventually it became apparent that he was gradually failing. During his long illness his wife was constantly at his side, and his relatives and friends did everything within their power to help him. The deceased was a son of Mrs. Theo. Wigand (and the late Theo. Wigand,) and was born in Henderson Township, but spent most of his life in this city. He was a kind upright citizen, and was held in high regard by a wide circle, of friends who join with us in extending sympathy to the bereaved widow and other relatives. He had attained the age of 35 years. In 1908 he married Miss Lucy Chevalier who survives him together with his mother, three brothers ant a sister, namely: William Wigand of Minneapolis; Emil C. Wigand of Hancock, Minn.; and Harry Wigand and Mrs. Leslie Smith of Minneapolis. He was a member of Banner Camp M. W. A. and also, member of the Knights of Columbus. His mother, sister, and brothers Emil and Harry were with the deceased's wife, at the bedside during his last hours. The funeral was held from St Joseph's Catholic Church, on Tuesday, Rev. Father A. J. Van der Heuvel officiating, and the remain were interred in the cemetery of that parish.
