This week we are called upon to chronicle the demise of another pioneer settler of this city and Sibley County, Frederick J. Wigand, who passed suddenly away at his home at St. Paul on Sunday, May 9, of apoplexy. The deceased was well and favorably known, and will be remembered by some of the old residents. Frederick J. Wigand was a native of Germany, and was about 73 years' of age. He came to this country in the early fifties, and resided in this city for some years. He moved to St. Paul about thirty-six years ago, where he engaged in the harness business and conducted the same until a few years ago when he retired. He leaves, besides his wife five sons and three daughters, among them Mrs. Fred Ott, of Blakeley. He also leaves four brothers and a sister, namely, Ferdinard and John Wigand, of Henderson and Theodore and Henry Wigand, and Mrs. Fred Wegge, of this city. The funeral was held from the family residence at St. Paul on Tuesday, and the remains were interred in Oakland cemetery. Among the relatives who attended the funeral at St. Paul Tuesday, were the following: Ferdinard Wigand, John Wigand and wife, Theo. Wigand, and Henry Wigand.
