Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Larry Martin LARRY-CONNIE-MARTIN@worldnet.att.net ********************************* John Wigand 1828-1916 The late John Wigand, of who demise mention was made in these columns last week, was a native of Germany, Where be was born, August 8, 1829, and was therefore 80 years 10 months and 6 days old at the time of his demise. He came to this country in 1846, first locating in Jefferson County, Wis., where he remained several years. He came to St. Paul and thence to Henderson in 1853, locating on a homestead in Henderson Township. In 1860 he was united in marriage to Clara Schmidt. Mrs. Wigand died last February and since that time Mr. Wigand began to fail rapidly. He was a kind neighbor and good citizen and was held in high regard by a wide circle of friends who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, namely; Emil Wigand, of Reeder, N.D.; Albert, who is on the farm; Mrs. August Otto, of Blakeley, and Mrs. Martin Nutzmann, of St. Paul. The funeral was held from St. Paul's Ev. Church on Saturday, with services also at the home, Rev. M. Lehmann officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Brown's Cemetery. Among the relatives in attendance at the funeral, from a distance, were: Mrs. Louisa Nutzmann, M. F. Nutzmarm and family, Albert Otto, Mrs.C. Stille, Mrs. Fred Wigand and Arthur Wigand, of St. Paul; Emil Wigand, and William Taves, of Reeder, N. D.; Arthur and Charles Wigand, of Wood Lake; Mrs. Fred Otto, of Shakopee; Mrs. Harper and daughter, of Gaylord; Chas. Timm, Sr., and Chas. Timm, Jr., and Mesdames Albert and William Timm, of Arlington; and family, of Blakeley. Mr. And Mrs. John Wigand of Henderson Township, who are among the oldest residents in this section, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage last month. Owing to scarcity of room they were unable to celebrate the affair other than in a small way, among their immediate relatives. Mr. Wigand, who is eighty years old, is still hale and hardy; his wife is 68 years of age. They are the parents of six children. Mr. And Mrs. Wigand's many friends hope they may live to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.
