John Fredrich Wigand 1801-1885

Died of old age, at his home about two miles out from, this city on 
Saturday, May 23rd, Mr. John F. Wigand. The deceased was one of the 
old pioneer settlers of Sibley County, having moved here in 1854. He 
has ever shown a deep interest in the welfare of the county and 
town, in which he lived. He was highly respected by all. H e was 
born in, Germany, August 3, 1801, and first, came to this country in 
1846. Upon his arrival he settled in Wisconsin, where he lived for about 
eight year, When he emigrated west to Minnesota, where lie has since
lived. He leaves a family of 9 children and 59 grandchildren to mourn 
his death.
The funeral was held on Monday. And was attended by a large number of 
sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends.
