This week we are called upon to chronicle the demise of on old and respected resident of this city, Mrs. Wegge, widow of the late Fred Wegge, who passed away at the home of her, daughter Mrs. Robert Geib, in this city on Friday, April 8, after a two month illness. The immediate cause of her death was liver trouble. All that kind attention, coupled with medical aid could accomplish was done for her but of no avail, and finally she succumbed to the inevitable. Mrs. Wegge, nee Maria Wigand, was born at Brandenberg, Prussia, Germany, October 20, 1836, and was therefore 73 years, 6 months and 19 days old at the time of her demise. In 1846 she came to the United States and located at Watertown, Wis., and in 1854 she came to Henderson. On May 3, 1867, she became the wife of Fred Wegge and four daughters were born to them, of whom two survive her, namely, Mrs. Robert Geib of this city and Mrs. Conrad Katzenmeyer of Henderson township. She resided with her husband on a farm in this township until 1890 when they removed to this city. Her husband died about six months ago. The deceased was a kind and Christian lady and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held from the home of her daughter on Sunday, Rev. G. Eyrich, assisted by the choir, conducting services at St. Paul's Evangelical church, and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot at Browns cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of their many friends.
