Zimmermann Expires Tuesday The community suffered a sever shock Tuesday evening when the word was passed around that Albert Zimmermann passed away. He had been ailing but one day and passed quietly into the arms of His Maker at 9 o’clock P.M. His death was due to hardening of the arteries. Tuesday morning he had a slight stroke but seemed to be on the mend until that evening when a relapse set in and the end came quickly. Mr. Zimmermann reached the age of 82 years and 2 days. He was one of the first business men this village had and he has been a continuous resident for many yeas. His health was apparently on the decline for many years but he reached an advanced age, nevertheless, and was able to attend a meeting of the stockholders of the First State Bank, of which he was President, on the day before his death. His sudden demise was a severe shock to his many old-time friends and acquaintances as well as the members of his family who were so near and dear to him. He is survived by his sorrowing wife, two children, Mrs. A. W. Scharping and Alfred J. Zimmermann, and a brother, William, all of this place. The funeral was held Friday afternoon with services at teh home and interment in the Arlington public cemetery. Zimmermann Albert Zimmermann, the account of whose death appeared in the Enterprise last week, died at his home in this village Tuesday evening, Jan. 20th from hardening of the arteries due to the infirmities of old age. Deceased was born in Ulrichshoff, Pommern, Germany, January 18th, 1838, and reached the age of 82 years and 2 days. He emigrated to America in 1866 and spent a few years in Wisconsin before coming to Minnesota. He made his home at Henderson and was married to Ernestine Haack in 1872. In 1881 they moved to Arlington and resided here ever since, a period of 38 years. Besides his wife and brother, William, deceased is survived by two children: Mrs. A. W. Scharping and Alfred J. Zimmermann, all residents of Arlington. Two sons preceded the father to the grave. Mr. Zimmermann was one of the pioneers of the village coming here before the railroad was put through. While the railroad was being constructed he and his brother, William, conducted a hotel. Later they went into the farm implement business. They were also in the retail liquor business for many years. Deceased had a large circle of friends and acquaintances who held him in high esteem. He held the office of Judge of Probate of Sibley County for a term, was mayor of Arlington for a year and served on the school board for many years. For the last number of years he was President of the First State Bank of this place. During his active years he held many offices of trust and was at all times an enthusiastic worker in civic affairs. The remains were laid to rest in Cemetery Arlington Friday afternoon, the funeral being conducted under Masonic auspices of which order deceased was a member for many years. Service was held at the home at two o’clock P.M. and also at the Commercial Hall after the ceremony. Rev. Buck of New Rome officiated. Despite the inclement weather of the day a large concourse of friends paid their last respects to the departed and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Card of Thanks To all the friends whose sympathy and services were so kindly tendered in our time of bereavement, we desire to extend our sincere thanks. - Mrs. Albert Zimmermann - And Family - William Zimmermann
