Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Patrick Sullivan ========================================================================= We are looking for descendants of the "Troopers" for this unique unit during the war of Rebellion. Any information will be appreciated. A Home Page through the Museum for their honor is being planned. We must be able to verify all information. I am trying to cover a 300 mile radius from Sioux City, IA. hoping to find descendants of these troopers. Very little is known except some historical sketches from Iowa Adjutant General office about the turn of the 1900s. Letters to family members may have been passed down and would be extremely important. This was a volunteer unit, well trained according to Gen. Alfred Sully. The General was sent to form a command after the 1863 carnage by the Sioux in Minnesota. Most of these troopers came from the Sioux City-Spirit Lake region. Most were immigrants. Thank you for what help you can provide.
