Land for the town of Fairhaven, including the cemetery, was donated by a Methodist minister, Thomas Gorrollo Partridge, in 1858. Rev. Partridge and five other men arrived in Minneapolis from Ohio, with the intention of settling somewhere in Minnesota. During a year's stay in Minneapolis, they heard about land described by Indians as the most beautiful in the area, to the north of the city. They set out, following the Mississippi north to Clearwater River, and decided on a nearby spot to stake claims. Rev. Partridge acquired enough land to establish the town and a family farm. A surveyor was hired to plat the city, complete with blocks, streets/names, a church, school, town square and the cemetery. Rev. Partridge then provided the land and plans to a designated committee to begin building Fairhaven. FAIRHAVEN CEMETERY NAME Born Died Notes Abell, Lulu M. - 07/18/1887 Age not readable. By 1930, commerce lost as a result of that decision finally caught up with the small town's economy, and Fairhaven became a declining community which has only started to rebuild today. Many of the headstones in Fairhaven Cemetery bear the names of the town's original settlers, and their descendants. The sextant, Brian Partridge, is the great great grandson of founder, Rev. Thomas Gorrollo Partridge.
