In the village plat a block was platted as a cemetery, free to everyone. It was not laid out in LOTS until after Dr Finch left. In 1882 the Oak Hill Cemetery Association was formed and Dr Finch deeded the block to them and then was platted into LOT s. This was the first cemetery in Steele County. The first burial was Daniel Morrison who d.in March 1856. His widow, Phoebe, d.the following June and is buried beside her husband in the same cemetery. This cemetery is located in Clinton Falls township in section 20 on top of the hill over looking the I 35 interstate highway, in an oak woods. Just drive into Clinton Falls village and then drive west on the street north of the old town hall and follow the street north up the hill, around west to the cemetery. The cemetery is drained, mowed and well maintained. Most markers were found in good repair. The Oak Hill cemetery records were used to expand on the 1985 record and are recorded here as the exact layout of the cemetery stating with ROW 1 to ROW 15. Each ROW is recorded north to south. Any additional information found on the markers that would be of interest is included in this report. NOTE: This transcription was done in in order of Rows and Lots so use your Search/Find option to find the surnames you are interested in. ========================================================================= Oak Hill Cemetery: ROW 1 LOT 1 CALDER *no data LOT 2-LOT 16 *no burials ROW 2 LOT 1 FINCH James M 1804-Dec 25 1873:born Clinton Co NY Minerva 1807-Mar 06 1881:wife Maude A 1878-Jan 20 1934:age 55 LOT 2 FINCH Cyrus M Sep 22 1847-Dec 30 1916:father Martha B 1847-1928:wife Children of Cyrus and Martha: Grace, Adelbert, no dates Fannie G d.Feb 25 1894:age 17m 3d LOT 3 LAMSON Harrison Jun 23 1825 Apr 04 1907:father Lucretia C Sep 17 1836 Jul 30 1908:mother *little Florence Sep 02 1878:age 1yr 3mo LOT 4 WARREN R D *no data Mary Jane b.Jul 05 1834 d.:age 29 yrs:wife LOT 5 MANVEL A M *no data LOT 6 MANVILLE Hiram D Jan 21 1819-Dec 16 1861 Amelia A 1835-Oct 26 1885:wife:Cynthia *record Amelia Jul 03 1851-Dec 29 1891:daughter Mary M Preavey/Prevey May 26 1818-Jan 10 1866 LOT 7 PREAVEY/PREAVY/PREVEY Leau (Lynne Peavey?) *no data Roy A d.Oct 02 1871:18mo:son of L and I Bertie H d.May 28 1871:13 yrs:son of L and I Francis d.Jun 08 1870:age 75yrs 10mo 12d LOT 8 McMILLEN Arthur Mar 14 1819-Nov 06 1898:Co H 1st Minn Honored Rangers veteran CLF Alice Sep 27 1827-Oct 31 1908:wife LOTS 9 - 12 *no burials ROW 3 LOT 1 KELLY Jessie *infant daughter of James M and Ida M Kelly of Montana LOT 2 LAMSON/LAMPSON Henry H 1854-1936 Minnie E Sep 09 1871-May 07 1913:wife Olive L Mar 06 1865-Feb 06 1903:wife *baby Haslip d.May 04 1933 LOT 3 DENNY Alvira M d.Dec 12 1884:age 48y 9m 17d:w/ of John Denny LOT 4 DAY Judson L 1877-1944 Blanch F 1881-1970:wife LOT 5 KNAPP George W Nov 12 1833-no date of death Maria S Apr 15 1825-Jan 01 1915 LOT 6 PEAVEY/PREAVY/PREVEY/PREAVEY Charles 1842-1937 Mary d.Feb 06 1890:age 75y 9m 25d:w/of Francis Preavy LOT 7 SANBORN * just a round cement marker LOT 8 KLEIN Henry Sep 21 1879-Jun 28 1941 Lucy Christison May 21 1877-Jan 12 1941:wife LOT 9 CHRISTISON Harry I 1871-1957 Nellie H 1881-1969:wife Clarence C Mar 12 1911-Jul 13 1932 LOT 10 BAKER Charlie Jr Jan 28 1911-Aug 08 1989 George Webster *no data LOT 11 GRIFFIN Thomas H 1836-1922:father:*Co P 189th Rec NY Vol Inf-Post 81 GAR Fannie Brown 1841-1909:wife Dorothy Esther Christison 1910-1910 LOT 12 KOCH Jacob d.Feb 09 1902:age 71y Anna wife d.Jan 14 1892:age 57y 2m 19d Maude Koch Larsen Nov 12 1906-Sep 23 1929 baby Dorothy L Aug 01 1910-Aug 14 1910 ROW 4 LOT 1 FINCH *no marker LOT 2 FINCH Caleb C b.NY d.Dec 30 1888:age 82y 4m 8d *no marker LOT 3 KOLLER *no marker LOT 4 HOGATE Ross J b.Aug 21 1912 ---- Dolord T 1940-1944:son Mitchell son Feb 03 1945-1945:son:age 2m Jeannette M wife Oct 14 1911-Sep 14 1981 LOT 5 MORRISON R E Bert Jun 10 1873-Jan 27 1951 Edith Dec 27 1875-Sep 07 1967:wife Glenn 1907-1907:son LOT 6 WEBSTER Richard 1833-1898 Fannie 1830-1918:wife of Richard Edward R 1877-1953:son of R and F Fannie E 1877-1974:wife of Edward LOT 7 NEWHALL Ann M Nov 26 1858-Dec 06 1906:wife Fannie E Webster 1863-1946:dau of Richard and Fannie LOT 8 ESKRA Joe 1876-1954 Mary A 1877-1963:wife Lorna Charlotte 1911-1922 LOT 9 SHULTZ Frank 1885-1925 Dominie 1838-1910:father Mathilda (Motl) 1840-1932:wife LOT 10 HOGATE Frank father Jun 05 1871-Dec 20 1935 Mary mother Apr 04 1883-Nov 06 1954 LOT 11 DITLEVSON Ed (Eddie) b.Jan 03 1892:son of Louis C and Mary Sena 1893-1923:wife LOT 12 FARNHAM William J 1850-1937:father Melissa 1861-1943:wife Etta 1883-1960:wife Orlie W 1884-1966:son and husband ROW 5 LOT 1 PIERCE Philander Feb 11 1816-Dec 25 1895 LOT 2 *no burials LOT 3 RIST John C Apr 06 1843-Jun 19 1923 Louiza Dec 04 1847-Oct 29 1904:wife LOT 4 MORRISON R Donald Apr 19 1897-Sep 07 1983:PFC US Army WW1 LOT 5 SWANSON Frank 1860-1919:father Olive 1863-1949:wife Clara May 28 1887-Nov 17 1904:daughter Gertrude 1893-1919:daughter Alta 1898-1925 LOT 6 MORRISON E Darrell Apr 19 1897-Nov 22 1984:PFC US Army WW1 June Eklund Jun 03 1907 ---- LOT 7 SMITH Dwight Kellogg b.NY d.May 31 1908:age 70y 11m 15d:*military marker Frances *no data:wife LOT 8 FREY William 1877-1971 Mabelle D 1877-1961:wife LOT 9 HOGATE Michael *no data LOT 10 HOGATE Chris 1879-1950:father Lillie 1881-1967:wife and mother LOT 11 HOGATE Harvey R May 04 1917-Aug 28 1995 Gertrude *no data LOT 12 HOGATE Frank Donna M Spooner was b.Jan 24 1942 in Storm Lake Iowa, daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Spooner, she lived with David an Mary Belle Mallison in Mankato. Additional information for some of these people and also some other early information on Clinton Falls deaths: Some of the persons mentioned might be buried in this cemetery and some are probably interned at other cemeterys in the area, such as Riverside and Union cemeterys in Medford, or in Owatonna. The death records show these family spellings as *Prevey, Lamson, Christison, Barnhart, McCloud, Lovestra Taylor. I tried to get the most accurate information and some of the marble markerers are very hard to read and so I pursued the matter to the courthouse in Owatonna. The records were searched and some errors were obvious and some were not so clear. I will list what I have found and copied from the vital records from some of the early Clinton Falls record of deaths. Death Records and other information of some Early Clinton Falls residents.
