KRUMSIEG Independent Candidate for City Comptroller Mr. Krumsieg was born of German parents in St. Louis, Mo., July 20, 1862. Eight years of his youth were spent at Fond du Lac, Wis., after which his parents moved to Rochester, Minn., where he attended the public schools until he reached the age of 15. From there he went to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was, until he arrived at the age of 18, a student at Concordia Lutheran College. After leaving college he returned to Minnesota, located in the city of St. Paul, and for four years he did service at the carpenter's bench. Mr. Krumsieg is a self-made man, who has built himself up by the force of his natural ability. While pursuing his necessary duties at the carpenter's table he found sufficient time in leisure moments, given to study, to graduate from the business college and has since adopted the profession of bookkeeping. He came to Duluth in the spring of 1886. He first obtained the position of bookkeeper with the firm of Burns & Ryan; later he was employed by the Duluth Plumbing Company until he secured a similar position with the firm of Williams, Daugherty & Upham, which he has held up to the present time. Two years ago Mr. Krumsieg's friends prevailed upon him to become an independent candidate for alderman. His election has been followed by a brilliant and sussessful career in the council that has made him hosts of friends among all classes and interests friendly to good government. He has at all times resisted the granting of franchises to private interests, and among the schemes that he has successfully opposed have been the Prindle gas franchise and the Park Point railway company project, which sought to obtain full control of all the streets in that part of the city. He has always been a vigorous opponent of the gas and water plants at the company's price, althouogh he would favor such a purchase if both plants could be purchased at a reasonable figure, say not to exceed $1,200,000. It was largely through his efforts that the famous intake pipe investigation was ordered, and as chairman of such investigating committee, did such great work that the source of Duluth's greatest scourge--typhoid fever-- is no more a mystery. Mr. Krumsieg's career in the council if he is elected to the office for which he aspires, guarantees a record for careful business methods and watchfulness of public interests. Mr. Krumsieg was one of the strongest men in the city council, and the city will lose a valuable man when Mr. Krumsieg retires. It is said among Democrats that Mr. Krumsieg's defeat is due to the fact that he voted for Noble Sampson for Sealer of Weights and Measures, when there was a splendid opportunity to elect a Democrat.
