Hilma was a strong, independent woman, raised from humble beginnings in Ely. She was born on Oct. 8, 1910 and was the ninth of 11 children born to Finnish immigrants Jacob and Maria Untinen. Hilma left a legacy of hard work and "sisu" to her surviving family. Following the death of her husband Patrick J. Conway in 1950, Hilma was diligent in her unwavering devotion to her four children. Over a span of 33 years she worked as a secretary for the federal government retiring in 1972 from Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin. After retirement she resided in Edina, MN where she enjoyed being near the family of her eldest daughter Kathleen Palmehn. She was known to her family and friends as a caring celebrant of life, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries with a card of congratulations. She felt that no one should go unnoticed on their "special day." She is survived by Kathleen (Robert) Palmehn of Minnesota, Terrence (Colleen) Conway of Florida, Thomas Conway of Ohio and Carol Conway Baiter of California as well as 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and always remembered for her sweet smile and independent spirit. A memorial service will be held at Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN Phone 952-925-2711, on Tuesday December 28 at 1:00 PM.
