He was born May 1, 1929, to Alex and Alma (Desotell) Cyr and was raised by Romeo and Florence Cyr in Red Lakes Falls, MN, and attended school there. Phil was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He married LaVonne Hyatt on Nov. 19, 1953, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing. They were Babbitt residents since 1962. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt, where he was the custodian for 35 years; Babbitt VFW Post 1539; he worked for Reserve Mining for 23 years as a maintenance repair man; and was known as the “Bicycle Man’’ in Babbitt for 32 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, LaVonne, of Babbitt; four sons, Donald (Gail) Cyr of Baxter, MN, Patrick Cyr of Hibbing, Paul (Caroline) Cyr of Schofield, WI, and Thomas (Lori) Cyr of Virginia; two daughters, Phyllis Cyr of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jean (David) Doty of Siren, WI; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson; two brothers, Harold (Donna) Bertrand of Wilmont, MN, and Thomas Trish of Rochester, MI; four sisters, Agnes (Lloyd) Damarais of Rochester, MI., Jeann (Daryl) Harms of Arkansas, Clara (Lloyd) Furstenberg of Wilmont, MN, and Linda Ewer of Rochester, Mich.; and a special aunt, Florence Cyr, of Red Lake Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Bertrand; and an uncle, Romeo Cyr. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt, with the Rev. James W. Scheuer as celebrant. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. Military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1539 and American Legion Post 535, both of Babbitt.
