Franson, 56, of Ely dies Rodney A. Franson, 56, of Ely passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Rod was born on March 19, 1950 in Fargo, ND the son of Melvin and Rosa (Sommerfeld) Franson. He graduated from Lisbon High School class of 1968 and attended the University of North Dakota for engineering. Rod moved to Aurora to work for LTV mining in 1972. On June 28, 1972 he married Debra Krogstad. Rod was an instructor through Vermilion Community College and taught career development for LTV. In 1997 the couple moved to their home on Garden Lake. Upon LTV closing Rod worked as a building estimator for White Pine Builders and E.H. Lawrence Construction. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Melvin. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie; a son, Brian of the Twin Cities; his mother, Rosa of Dilworth, MN and a sister, Marian (James) Dew of Fargo, ND. A time of remembrance and sharing will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Kerntz Brothers Funeral Chapel in Ely. A time of visitation with Rod's family will be held hour prior to the service.
