FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Ely Echo Submitted: March 2007 ========================================================================= Helen Saima Lappi, 90, of Ely dies Helen Saima Lappi, 90, of Ely passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Nursing Home. She was born on May 25, 1916 in Neillsville, WI. Helen attended school in Irwin Township, MI. She later worked in the Duluth area, including at St. Luke's Hospital for many years. On June 18, 1965 she married Oiva Lappi in Ely. She worked as a waitress in Ely. Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church of Ely. She enjoyed fishing, blueberry picking and crocheting hats and mittens for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was a warm, kind and caring person. She was devoted to her family and loved them very much. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Jim; her granddaughter, Jana; three brothers, Eugene, John and Raymond; and two sisters, Linnea and Erma. She is survived by her husband, Oiva of Ely; three children, Jack ("Tootie") Lundgren of Hermantown, Jerold (Julia) Lundgren Sr. of Duluth and Jeannette (Paul) Ierino of Duluth; eight grandchildren, David (Kathy Kaspszak) Lundgren, Jerry Lundgren, Jeyn Kajander, Jayn Brown, Jerold (Brenda) Lundgren Jr., Joyce (Mike) Johnson, Jay (Stacy) Lundgren, Tina Ierino, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ely. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor John Bonk will officiate. Burial will be at the Ely Cemetery on a later date.
